Greetings!

We are so excited to have two School Counselors at Sunset this year! We are so happy to meet you!

Sam Winchell
Hello Falcons! I am beyond blessed to be working with students and families in my 19th year as a school counselor here at Sunset. My work is mainly focused on presenting classroom lessons on topics related to social emotional learning, academics, and career skills and exploration. I also partner with families, work with students individually or in small groups, and respond to students and situations throughout the day. Looking forward to a great year!

I am so excited to be joining the Sunset Team! I recently moved to Spokane from Nashville, TN, where I was a middle school counselor for the past seven years. My work is mainly focused on supporting students and families around behavior and attendance. I also assist with responding to student needs as they arise throughout the day! I look forward to meeting you and your student. 🙂

Throughout the school year we will be going into classrooms to conduct class meetings, and deliver guidance lessons on various topics. Class meetings give students an opportunity to practice solving problems, while guidance lessons are focused around a specific topic such as decision making, study skills, anti-bullying, friendship, organization and time management. We will also be working with students individually and/or in a small group setting with a focus on similar topics. Our goal is that our work directly impacts student learning and development. We work collaboratively with parents, staff, administrators, and communities to support all students. 

Although we work with students on topics as they arise, our goal is to prevent potential problems before they begin. We can only do this with your support and collaboration. We hope to be an advocate for your child in the areas of academic, personal/social, and career development. We are also able to provide consultation to parents and provide information on various resources.
